Thoroughly authentic Malaysian flavours (or as close as you can get) - flavourful, vibrant, rich, potent.
Char kuey teow, nasi lemak, chicken satay, onde onde cake all excellent.
Char kuey teow is VERY hard to find in HK: especially the type with depth of flavour, adequte charring from the wok, right hit of chilli, and even the use of duck eggs. The details make the difference.
Rice in nasi lemak very fragrant. Sambal has layers.
The hot calamansi sits on the boundary of sour and sweet, as it should.
But bear in mind chickens in HK are smaller than those in Malaysia. This is an unchangeable fact. It didn't bother us at all since the flavours were excellent.
Considering the friendly service, comfortable ambience, generous portion, the price is good (~HKD150-200 per head, or more depending on how widely you order).
If anything, it is actually a great deal considering the quality in relation to the price since these flavours are very hard to find in HK restaurants.
[Edit: have tried other dishes since initial review. Would also highly recommend CEREAL PRAWN for getting the crumb just right, SAGO PUDDING for the rich flavour of gula melaka, SINGAPORE LAKSA for excellent soup base, PIE TEE the renowned Peranakan dish that is almost impossible to find anywhere in HK.]
It's is said the best Malaysian cuisine in town.
It's rare to see Malaysian cuisine in HK. This one tastes good but portion is a little bit small.
Probably one of the best Malaysian food in Hong Kong. All dishes were great from the beef curry to noodles and fried chicken. Desserts also very decent.
I discovered this gem through a Malaysian friend who highly recommended it, and I can attest to its authenticity. This restaurant is perfect for family gatherings, thanks to its comfortable seating arrangements. When it comes to the food, there are a few standout dishes that you simply must try: the Satay lamb, Roti Canai with Dal Curry, and 肉骨茶 are all exceptional.
Dishes are sometimes hit & miss, but there are no other quality Singaporean restaurants in the city, so definitely the place to come for a quick Singapore fix. The onde onde cake is a must have
Authentic & unique Malaysian & Singaporean cuisines. Servicing of staff’s very friendly & nice. Value for money.
Had dinner at Cafe Malacca a few weeks back. To be fair, they are showcasing Malaysian food and not Singaporean, but I will say many dishes are rather similar. The food portions are quite large but the quality is only average. The hokkien noodles lacked the umami which comes from cooking the dish with prawn stock. The lamb satay was quite expensive and quite tough. The fried chicken in the nasi lemak was also surprisingly tasteless. Spent $500+ here so doubt I will be back again. Since travelling is back to normal, I rather head home to indulge in my favorite hawker food.
What a gem to find an authentic Malaysian restaurant in HK. The rojak is simply delectable. Wanton Mee flavor is good but the noodles were a tad too al dente for me. The restaurant is spacious and staff are attentive and friendly.
